Under clear, sunny skies and a bone-numbing -16°C, Shubenacadie Sam, the first revelatory rodent to make his prediction in Canada, slowly emerged from his cozy hut and was scared back inside by his shadow. I guess that means we’re in for another six weeks of winter, and no one would be surprised by that on this cold and windy morning. As always, we take what Mother Nature dishes out, I guess.

Hi Nancy, I did not realize that this weather prognosticator existed, thanks for the education. So sorry about those temps and the sun that cast the offending shadow. It is raining here, still snow on the ground however, so no shadow for our rodent. Thank goodness. Will check out your chosen blog too. :-)

That is a great photo of Sam. Our local groundhog, Kliffton, won’t be seeing his shadow today but it really doesn’t matter. In this area we will have at least 8 more weeks of winter.

It makes no difference to us because we always get spring storms, no matter what this chubby creature does. It is fun to see everyone get worked up in a lather over this though. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I like that idea of featuring a blog…I may have to try this later.

Poor Puxatawny (whatever)(wherever) Phil NEVER sees his shadow, does he? Does he? Poor guy. It’s not his fault. Forced into an untenable marketing ploy by the politicians and weathermen he can’t win for losing. (and weatherwomen, of course) I’m all about making my own Spring instead. Buy some cut flowers and place them in vases, put spring flowers as my Desktop photo, and visit nurseries and garden centers. I’m SO READY!

I have to laugh at the ground hog. It would be nice If we ONLY had six more weeks of winter, wouldn’t it?
We are getting more light every day, though. I am already ordering seeds and have even planted some lavender for the garden.

Hey Nancy, our groundhog isn’t worried about seeing his shadow, he was looking to see snow. And he didn’t. Whoops, problems of Olympic proportions. They are busy trucking in snow right now. Way to go groundhogs.
What a great idea of having that feature on your sidebar. Jodi’s idea is really “snowballing” LOL.

He is so cute, though, it’s hard to be mad at him… especially for me, since our local groundhog did *not* see his shadow. Rather changes your perspective on the observance, I think. Hoping yours was wrong maybe and you’ll get an early thaw.
Your kitty is adorable, and your grandson should be a model. (May that knowledge stand you in good stead against the winter blues!)
