Hot August Night

As a pale phantom with a lamp
Ascends some ruined haunted stair,
So glides the moon along the damp
Mysterious chambers of the air.

Now hidden in cloud, and now revealed,
As if this phantom, full of pain,
Were by the crumbling walls concealed,
And at the windows seen again…

  1. The moon has been beautiful the last few nights. And it’s getting hot here as well! I guess I shouldn’t complain–we’ve had an unusually cool and wet summer thus far.

  2. A wonderful photo nancy! I’ve been looking for the moon, it’s been hiding behind the tree canopy…I might have to stay up late to see it! Hope all is well in your moonlit world! gail

  3. Here I was waiting for ‘Brother Love’s Travelling Salvation Show’ when I saw ‘Hot August Night’…now I’ll have to go find it in my iTunes and play it to console myself. And read Faulkner’s ‘Light in August’ again.
Seriously, though, how did it come to be August already? It seems like it was just…April!
