GB Muse Day — May 2009

may1

“Sweet May hath come to love us,

Flowers, trees, their blossoms don;

And through the blue heavens above us

The very clouds move on.”

–   Heinrich Heine, Book of Songs

The sight of these tiny green shoots on a rose bush just off my balcony set my heart all aflutter!  I have nothing in my garden containers that’s in bloom just yet, though I do have one, lonely sunflower seed that has sprouted unceremoniously in one empty pot.  I never fail to be inspired by their tenacity.

Happy May Day to all — enjoy Earth’s slow stretch as she awakens her finest green.

  1. What a lovely way to welcome in May, Nancy! Thanks for the inspiration!

    Happy May Day to you too, OFB!

  2. Happy May Day to you also, Nancy!

    The poem, your photo, and your thoughts all express the joy this spring is bringing. I am so enjoying the returning warmth and greenery of this season.

  3. Happy May Day Nancy…It can’t be long before your balcony is filled with loveliness…what surprises have you in store for us this year? gail

  4. I agree…we’ve had such lovely warm days recently (not today, though!) – I’ve been outside luxuriating in being outside with the new buds and signs of life….without the company of blackflies or mosquitoes yet! Last night, I sat at the duck pond until dusk, listening, watching. What joy.

  5. Hi Nancy, such exciting news about the rose leaves beginning to show! And yes to the amazing sunflowers too. Good deal all around. Thanks for the tip about cat hair for birds making nests too, we have more than our share with the black fluffy Hazel. :-)

  6. I forgot it was May Day! And here it is, almost suppertime. I hope you HAD a nice one. Do you roses off your balcony have a fragrance?

  7. Happy May Day Nancy! I hope it won’t be much longer & you will be able to enjoy beautiful blooms again. :)

  9. Strange as it may seem, I like visualizing a single sunflower sprouting in a pot. I have a one and only grandchild — seven year old boy — and I agree with you 100% about it being the perfect love. Your little guy is very handsome.
