Christmas Wrap

“Your friendship is a glowing ember
Through the year; and each December
From its warm and living spark
We kindle flame against the dark;
And with its shining radiance light
Our tree of faith on Christmas night.”

-Thelma J. Lund

Merry Christmas, one and all! Our day was a very happy one.  My older daughter, Angela, and her cat joined us Christmas Eve — her visits are always welcome, but never moreso than at Christmas.  We played board games until the wee hours, then toddled off to bed to wait for Santa’s arrival.  He was generous, as always.

We spent an unhurried morning opening gifts and breakfasting on sausage, eggs, toast, muffins and a fresh fruit salad.  Around noon, Charlie and his mother went to the city to visit with his Dad who, I’m happy to report, is making slow but steady progress and could be released the first of next week.  Angela and I drove to my Mom and Dad’s and had Christmas dinner with all the trimmings with them.  The day was different than other years, but unhurried and very enjoyable.

We had heavy rain and high winds Christmas Eve which rendered our Christmas green, dangit!  After all the snow we’ve had.  Oh well, it was certainly a spectacular day for safe travel.  And that was Christmas Day in a nutshell.

I hope you all spent wonderful days in the company of loved ones and friends.

  1. Good to hear all are well and happy this time of year. It is amazing that you had a green christmas after all that snow. It was quite warm here yesterday and even warmer today. So warm today that it is foggy here in the middle of the day. It feels strange to look out and see fog midday. This is a lovely poem you have in your post today. Thank you.

  2. Good Christmas news, Nancy. Your day sounded delightful as was mine, one of the best. Went to bed exhausted and happy … lots of cooking … lots of guests, just what I love! Blessings for ringing in the New Year with health, happiness and hugs!

  3. Thank you for the lovely words, Nancy – friendship has definitely been a glowing ember in my life this year!

    Green Christmas is the norm here, but up where you live a person can be forgiven for feeling a little miffed about no snow – not fair, is it?

  4. And a very merry Christmas to you and all of yours also. So glad that you enjoyed your time together.

    Gotta laugh, we have just experienced the Whitest Christmas on record here on the west coast. Guess you know where all the snow went.

  5. I’m glad you had a good Christmas, even if it wasn’t white. I thought we’d be white for quite awhile, but it almost got up to 60 yesterday, and now, the snow is gone. Right now, it’s 26, so that warm weather didn’t stick around long.

  6. I’m so glad to hear that Charlie’s father is on the mend, and that you and your family had an enjoyable Christmas in spite of all the stress and worry!
