The Iceman Cometh

If the current forecast holds true, this could be what The Maritimes looks like tomorrow.  The freezing rain warning which has been issued warns of up to 12 hours of freezing rain for our area, possibly damaging trees and power lines.  But it should make for some fantastic photos if one can skate around to get them.

Charlie’s Dad’s bypass surgery has been re-re-re-rescheduled to 7:00 tomorrow (Thursday) morning.  He’s getting quite discouraged by the wait, so here’s hoping they can get the show on the road tomorrow and he can put this behind him and get home for Christmas.

Here’s hoping the temperature stays up and the precipitation stays as rain!

  1. That freezing rain can be so nasty. We had some last week and I was sorely tempted to get out and take photos, but it was too dangerous to even walk outside! I sincerely hope Charlie’s Dad’s surgery finally happens!

  2. Best of luck for Pop! Freezing rain has few peers for sheer dangerous discomfort, for real. We get it out here in Portland as well, when conditions get perfect for it. You can’t walk up a 1% slope, lol. Ice everywhere, and the slickest kind.

I hope the surgery goes well. All the best.

  3. Batten down the hatches.

Your poor FIL. How discouraging this is. I hope they don’t wait until it is an emergency for him.

  4. Hi Nancy, I wonder if your predicted ice storm is coming down our way? Here in northern VA, after a week or more of temps. in the 20’s and 30’s, the past couple of days have been in the 50’s and 60’s! Now this morning it’s in the 40’s and it’s raining cats and dogs. The prediction is for the temp. to go down later today, and the rain is supposed to turn to sleet. Many Virginian’s have no idea how to drive in sleet–not to mention snow!–so it should be quite interesting, to say the least! Many people here in the suburban Wash. DC area aren’t from around here, so there are quite a lot of us who DO understand driving hazards (I’m from PA, lived in NY, ME, OH) growing up, all areas where snow/ice is common. Anyway, I am wondering if your father-in-laws surgery is going through as planned? I hope so. I don’t know the circumstances, but I’m sending my good wishes your way (and his) for good health and smooth sailing (and I don’t mean on ice skates!! ;) Jan

  5. Beautiful pictures! I hope the power stays on up there for you. I know that is always an issue down here when we have freezing rain. I hope everything goes well with the surgery!

  6. As always, thank you for your support and lovely comments. Both the freezing rain and the surgery are on as planned. In fact, Charlie’s Dad should be just about finished in the OR. Thank you again for your good thoughts. (We could see up to 12 hours of freezing rain…eek.)

  7. Wow….we hates freezing rain but love the ice sculptures that occur following one. Providing, of course, that we can stay inside WITH power and food and great movies!

I know your father-in-law is in surgery even as I type. We all look forward to an update when you can. Prayers going up.

  8. Please let the weather hold … ice makes for lovely photos but not driving and power outadages! And, please, let Charlie’s Dad be home for Christmas!

I appreciate and welcome your comments!
