When There’s Nothing To Say…

What to say, when there’s nothing to say;
When a breeze takes your thoughts and blows them away
On a dull and frosty November day.

What to say, when your muse disappears;
When she leaves you to struggle with words that aren’t clear
Do you prattle on anyway, like I am here?

What to say, when there’s nothing to say;
You hope for sheer brilliance the following day
And if not, you sit down and you write anyway.

But brilliance is seen in the sparkle of stars;
In the glow of the moon, in the strings of guitars,
In happy-faced cosmos, the song of a lark.

Why hold out for brilliance, I ask you, I pray;
When a smattering of words will do fine anyway?
On a day when there’s simply just nothing to say.

  1. Nancy, this is the part that really captured me:

    But brilliance is seen in the sparkle of stars;
    In the glow of the moon, in the strings of guitars,
    In happy-faced cosmos, the song of a lark.

    That’s so true and beautifully rendered.

    You’re a wordsmith extraordinaire.
